CROSS COUNTRY Cross Country in 2016, saw the culture of Girls Grammar runners thrive through the girls’ team spirit, drive and determination. We saw massive improvements from the girls throughout the season; something that was achieved through their ongoing dedication to training and meets. The cross country team formed a strong unit, through bonding at our annual Easter Marrapatta camp as well as countless training sessions each week. Upon arriving at QGSSSA there was no doubt in our minds that we were a united team, ready to race, pushing each other across the finish line. As captains our proudest moment was on QG day; we had no idea the level of fight and determination each girl would bring to the line, resulting in an outstanding number of personal bests across the board – every girl could not have tried any harder.
As a result of our determination and spirit, the BGGS 2016 cross country team placed a commendable second overall, with the age-group placings as follows:
15 years 2nd place 16 years 7th place 17 years 3rd place
12 years 2nd place 13 years 4th place 14 years 3rd place

FENCING The Brisbane Girls Grammar School Fencing program has had an incredibly successful season, with a record number of girls participating. The Brisbane School Team Fencing Fixtures, the main competition in which all Brisbane Girls Grammar School fencers compete, is held on Saturdays throughout Term II. Out of thirteen teams, six teams placed in the top three of their divisions, with one gold medal, two second places and three third places. This outstanding result is indicative of the hard work put in by the girls and their dedication to training has definitely paid off. A number of younger fencers participated in the competitions, fencing very well and learning a lot from the experience. Brisbane Girls Grammar School Fencers also represented the School and participated in numerous state and national competitions. The State School Team Fencing Championships were held earlier in the year and the BGGS Foil A Team achieved first place in their division. All BGGS teams qualified for the National School Team Fencing Championships, and achieved amazing results.
It was an incredibly enjoyable and fulfilling season and the girls are to be congratulated on their superb efforts at trainings and competitions. CHERIE SHIH (12R) AND ALEXANDRA PATCHEN (12O) CAPTAINS
