MATHEMATICS
JUNIOR MATHEMATICS YEAR 7 MATHEMATICS PHOEBE LINGARD (7H) AND AMELIA PERRIN (7H) One of the most challenging things we learnt in maths this year was algebra. For many girls this was a daunting thought as everyone raves about how algebra is the hardest thing you will ever do. Little did they know Girls Grammar has amazing teachers who have helped us conquer our fears of this challenging topic. Although we did lots of hard work, we also did lots of fun activities like the ‘catch this’ activity and the ‘dodecawhat’ shape building exercise. We have had lots

The Mathematics Faculty, over the year, has provided many enthusiastic students with the opportunity to embark on a range of challenging and enjoyable experiences. For example, Mathapatta, the maths competition afternoons, and the Maths Challenge for Young Australians (MCYA) Challenge and Enrichment series. Throughout our lessons this year, we have built upon our previous maths skills through teamwork, conversation and independent silent work. These methods were very effective and we have enjoyed challenging ourselves to become better mathematicians. We would like to thank the maths faculty for providing us with these opportunities and look forward to participating in future maths activities and challenges.
of fun in maths this year and are really excited about what next year has to offer and what fears we will face next!
YEAR 8 MATHEMATICS ERIN CHRISTMAS (8M)
YEAR 10 MATHEMATICS LILY MACROSSAN (10W)
My previous school didn’t teach the level of maths that I am now expected to be good at. I thought I knew how to work out the diameter of circles; but I didn’t. Now I do. I may not be the best in my class but I understand what we are learning and am constantly improving. Since coming to Girls Grammar I haven’t had a regret and even though I am still fitting in, I now know my strengths and weaknesses.
Year 10 Maths introduces you to new concepts, which challenge you at times but also create a fun and enjoyable learning atmosphere. Some concepts introduced and covered in Year 10 Maths include circle geometry, surds, financial problems and simultaneous equations. Year 10 Maths widens your mathematical knowledge, which prepares you for senior maths. I have really enjoyed Year 10 Maths and can’t wait to see what I will cover in the senior years of high school.
