CHINESE AFFILIATE SCHOOL VISIT — SHANGHAI NO. 3 GIRLS MIDDLE SCHOOL ALEX DIMICHELE (11E)

This year we were lucky enough to have visiting students from the Shanghai No. 3 Girls Middle School, and we had the opportunity to host a student for a couple of days. These students were from the same school we visited last year on our trip to China, so it was nice to see some familiar faces! Our Chinese buddies came with us to classes so they could experience Australian school life. It gave both the host and the student a good chance to practise language skills. The students also came to the interhouse athletics carnival and experienced the Girls Grammar spirit in all its glory. It was a wonderful experience to host a Chinese exchange student, and I am thankful for our ongoing connection with the Shanghai No. 3 Girls Middle School.

JAPANESE AFFILIATE SCHOOL VISIT — MIE JUNIOR/SENIOR HIGH, JAPAN ELENA DIAS-JAYASINHA (11G)

My family and I hosted a Japanese exchange student, Airi, in the second week of Term III and I loved the whole experience. Every aspect was rewarding — I made a new friend, improved my Japanese and learned so much about our cultural differences. We challenged each other to try new things such as eating Vegemite, mixing rice with raw egg and wearing Japanese facemasks. We also had an amazing time at places such as Dreamworld and Mount Coot-tha. Showing her Brisbane was great fun and I cannot wait to see her again on the Japanese exchange trip.
