YEAR 12 BIOLOGY This year has been fascinating in Biology. We’ve explored genetics, heredity and genetic diseases, covering fundamental topics such as the central dogma of Biology. I love Biology because I get to

Biology has been one of the most interesting and enjoyable subjects of my senior years. The topics that we focus on throughout senior Biology are innovative and relevant to modern issues, further preparing us for the real world. NIKKI CASTRISOS (12G)

YEAR 12 CHEMISTRY COURTNEY HILL (12R) As a senior subject, Chemistry gives students the opportunity to create a stable base for a future in the field of science, or simply broaden their knowledge and understanding of basic chemistry concepts and principles. Throughout my senior year, Chemistry has allowed me to develop a wide-range of ‘real-world’ skills. The investigation of basic chemistry applications allowed me to improve my in-depth analysis and problem solving skills, the completion of an Extended Experimental Investigation pushed me to improve my teamwork and time-management skills, and the

completion of an Extended Research Task provided me with the opportunity to apply my new-found knowledge to ‘real-world’ situations. The skillset which I have developed throughout my time as a chemistry student has provided me with the knowledge I require to transition confidently into the next phase of my life. Regardless of the academic journey which each student chooses to take, the large amount of ‘real-world’ experience which they will acquire whilst studying Chemistry is likely to benefit them immensely in the future.

SCIENCE 21 STEPHANIE OLIN (11M)

Science 21 has been a very rewarding and exciting subject for all the girls involved in our Year 11 classes. Since the beginning of the year, we have been taught a variety of topics that have widened our insight into many topical and modern day issues in science. We have covered some of these issues by completing experiments on the effects of drugs such as caffeine, adrenaline, and tobacco on small crustaceans, investigating whether we should use nuclear power in Australia, and investigating Moreton Bay’s very fragile ecosystem which started with an excursion to the Bay on a boat where we tested water quality and tried to spot dolphins, whales and dugongs. In Science 21 we have had the opportunity to explore many prominent issues that are not always explored in other sciences. Science 21 is a unique and thought-provoking subject. I feel very privileged to have been taught under such wonderful staff and am excited to continue the fascinating course in Year 12.
