HEALTH PROMOTING SCHOOLS ALEXANDRA WILSON (11H) AND ALIXANDRA HAINES (11R)

Health Promoting Schools (HPS) is a service group at Girls Grammar open to all year levels. We are dedicated to promoting a healthy lifestyle as well as giving back to the community through our fundraising and voluntary work. The proceeds raised from our numerous fundraisers during the year are donated to the Australian Cervical Cancer Foundation (ACCF). The Australian Cervical Cancer Foundation (ACCF) is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to eliminating cervical cancer in Australia as well as in developing countries. The team at the ACCF work tirelessly to try and achieve this goal through education in Australia and

by providing education, screening and vaccinations in developing countries. Throughout the year HPS undertakes interesting and productive ways to raise funds for the ACCF. From our numerous healthy breakfasts, lawn pool parties, the sports-themed raffle in Term IV and participation in the ACCF TechNO Challenge, we are able to continue our support of the ACCF. Healthy living, including women’s health, is very important and the work the ACCF does is integral to promoting a healthy lifestyle in both Australia and overseas.

JUMP ROPE FOR HEART GIA CAYAS (7G)

This year the students raised a fantastic total of $7892.30 in donations.

In mid-September, the Sports Centre was flooded with colour as the Year 7 and 8s came together for the annual Jump Rope for Heart programme, raising money for the Heart Foundation. It was a colourful, exciting and energetic two periods filled with loud music, laughter and, of course, a whole lot of skipping. There was individual, pairs and long rope skipping within each house group. This year was the School’s twentieth consecutive year of participation in Jump Rope; the current Year 12s have the record for the highest amount of money raised by a cohort which they achieved when they were in Year 8.

On a personal note, raising funds for the Heart Foundation is important, as both of my grandfathers have had open-heart surgery. It was a very successful and fun day with every girl gaining something positive from the experience while raising money for continued heart research and health education. On behalf of the Year 7 and 8 cohorts, I would like to give special thanks to Ms Martel for coordinating this event and making sure everything ran smoothly on the day.
