2015 School Magazine

Special congratulations must go to all the soloists who displayed an outstanding level of skill and dedication on their instruments. This year, old girl and professional violinist Janet Anderson (2000) played the solo from Winter from the Four Seasons Op 8, no. 4 by Vivaldi with Chamber Orchestra. Mimi Versace (11L) on first violin, Kathryn Bird (11H) on second violin, Elizabeth Simmers (11W) on viola, and Isabella Busby (11M) on cello wowed the audience by playing Allegro con Spirito from Quartet Op 74 No. 4 ’Sunrise’ by Haydn. On flute, Fotini Box (12G), accompanied by the talented girls in Big Band, performed a unique version of Night Sky by Kerin Bailey for big band and solo flute, arranged by our talented Mr Kucharski. Our vocal soloists included Cate Dann (10B) alongside old girls Kelsey Giarola (2008) and Susannah Plant (2007), and in the medley; Simran Patel (12O), Josephine Wilson (12L) and Juliette Seipel (12L). The engaging repertoire resonated throughout the hall and all the girls involved had a truly amazing experience. Thanks must go to all the girls and parents who volunteered to work behind the scenes

on the night. From the cable runners to the ushers, your help ensured a night that was both professional and smooth. The audio and visual team must be commended for providing the great sound and capturing the concert on film. Thanks must also go to the hardworking Music Support Group and other parents who volunteered to decorate the venue, organise tickets and assist in transporting all the equipment and instruments back to school in the early hours of the morning. A final and tremendously earned thanks must also go to the music staff who worked extremely long and arduous hours to present the best concert of the year. The girls are extremely lucky to be members of the ensembles under the guidance of the amazing music teachers at Brisbane Girls Grammar School, and are forever in debt of the knowledge and kindness that they have shown them. With the amazing concert the girls produced, we definitely aren’t ‘Les Misérables’ but instead feel we ‘Can’t Give You Anything But Love’.
