JAPAN STUDY TOUR IMARNI KAJEWSKI (11G)
The 2015 Japan Study Tour was an enriching experience with both cultural and personal discoveries. With seventeen other Grammar girls, I explored various aspects of Japan from the 18 September until 3 October. In the first week, we toured many iconic cities: Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima and Nagano. Each Japanese city presented us with different interpretations of Japanese culture, however I particularly enjoyed our stay in Kyoto. Within our five day stay at a large traditional Japanese Inn, visited Kinkaku-ji temple, Ryoanji zen garden, attended a two-day intensive language school and were fitted with cotton summer kimonos, called yukatas. During the second week, we lived with a Japanese host family from our sister school, Mie High School. While adopting the life of a Japanese student was a little daunting at first, overcoming these language barriers and cultural differences was an extremely rewarding experience. We are all very grateful to have been given such a wonderful opportunity to immerse ourselves in Japanese culture and utilise our Japanese language abilities.
