YEAR 8 MULTIMEDIA AND INTERACTIVE STUDIES PARIS COMISKEY (8B), ARABELLA WALSH (8B) AND GABRIELLE AINSCOUGH (8B) Media and Interactive Technologies is a fascinating subject that teaches valuable life skills in a fun inviting environment. In Term III we participated in robotics, a fun group task where we had to work together to program a robot to follow a series of instructions and complete activities, such as using a sensor to stop itself before it hit an object and picking up a plastic ball. Most teams had some hiccups along the way, but our teacher was able to provide her expertise and help us learn to overcome the problem. This term we were told that we were going to build and create our own websites. This meant that we had to edit images, create animations, and design our homepage using Photoshop. On our website we needed three images, the first that represents us and all of the things we love, the second about our house here at BGGS and what makes it so special, and third, an image based around a quote. We have enjoyed this semester of MIT and are looking forward to participating in it again. YEAR 7 TECHNOLOGIES ABIGAIL LUI (7O) In Technologies this year I have learnt important architectural and drawing skills, and how to use the Microsoft Excel, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe After Effects software applications. Knowing how to use the programmes has been very useful in other school assignments. I really enjoyed learning how to use the programmes and they have helped me to create things that I would not have been able to make had I not taken the course. In practical technologies, our class used industrial machines to create a wooden whale, an acrylic photo frame and an aluminium eggcup. These projects, especially the eggcup, certainly tested my creativity and encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone. I enjoyed the projects immensely and walked away from these tasks with lots of important skills that I am sure will be useful in later life. TECHNOLOGY STUDIES
YEAR 9 INNOVATIVE DESIGN TIFFANY DAVISON (9M)
My studies in Innovative Design have taught me introductory skills in architecture, scaling, rendering, modelling and 3D graphics. Studying architectural design and building materials is my favourite aspect of the subject and I find it extremely interesting as well as enjoyable. Designing and digitally building my bus stop shelter was a fun challenge and really put my creativity to the test. In Term IV we worked on building a scaled model of our bus stop out of cardboard. Producing my bus stop model has been a process whereby I can use my creativity in a logical and thought-provoking way. Innovative Design has been, and will continue to be, an educational and stimulating subject that has given me useful skills to use throughout the rest of my education.
YEAR 9 MULTIMEDIA AND INTERACTIVE TECHNOLOGIES INEZ ORMROD (9G) Throughout the year we have covered a wide variety of Multimedia and Interactive Technology (MIT) topics, including graphic design and typography, computer systems and games programming. This varied range of topics has helped us build our knowledge of technology systems, and given us a strong foundation on which we will build on in the years to come. While I have truly enjoyed all aspects of MIT this year, my favourite topic was definitely typography. This topic was based around the knowledge of graphic design, and extended our understanding on how to create images on our computers. Throughout the project we also further developed both our Photoshop and Illustrator skills, to the extent that we were then able to create a design which represented an element on the periodic table, which in turn was printed onto a tote bag. For game programming we worked in teams to create a game, which reflected aspects of the environment such as sustainability. This was both a helpful and fun skill to develop, as it allowed us to apply our newly learnt knowledge and understanding to create and programme our own game.
