The best thing about Year 10 Science is we do lots of practical work every week. We have made rockets. produced new substances. burned gases. studied micro-organisms and examined blood. it makes us feel like real scientists to put on goggles, get out the test tubes. and begin to mix things and make brilliantly coloured substances from clear solutions. Science is a never-ending-story; it seems the more we learn. the more there is to learn. What makes it all interesting is that everything relates to real life. in our study of genetics in Biology we began to look at our families In a whole new way, realising just how complicated our inheritance is. in Physics we had many interesting discussions about life in a space colony. making some of us wonder if it could happen for us in our life time We are all looking forward to Forensic Science and putting our knowledge to use to understand how crime scene Investigators analyse c ues and solve crimes So much to do. so little time!

In Term 3. Year 8 Science students examined everything from microscopic cells of the tiniest and simplest of organisms to the most complex systems of our own bodies. One of the highlights of Biology was the opportunity to operate and observe through microscopes. showing us a whole other world that we had never dared to imagine. Seeing the unseen really showed us how much more there is out there than what we see with our naked eyes. We looked at the twisting and turning species, Spirogyra. and the wiggly. yet graceful. Euglena. The unit also made us wonder if the invention of the microscope allowed us to see the unseen. what might we create in the future to further understand our world? In Term 2. Year 9 explored electricity. We learnt many principles including the difference between an insulator and a conductor. how electrical circuits work. and how to Identify and create both series and parallel circuits. The challenge came from being able to recognise how to construct and use a model of electricity and apply this to content knowledge and everyday examples. I personally enjoyed exploring this area of science as I had often wondered how electrical objects and appliances in our everyday life work EMILY ANDERSON (8R) & ABIGAIL ASHFORD (8R)

BIOLOGY Senior Biology has been a lot of fun. The practical work is always interesting We particularly enjoyed the biotechnology exper'merits. Separating DNA fragments and proteins using gel electrophoresis techniques followed by analysing gel patterns has been fascinating

Studying cell theory at microscopic levels, actively gathering and analysing data from the ecosystem of North Stradbroke Island and performing enlightening class experiments on animal physiology gave Year n Biology students a fresh look at the diversity in the world around us
