L FE, ^^AVIN6 CANIP The Senior Physical Education Lifesaving Camp was Introduced at Girls Grammar in 2001. This year. twenty girls travelled to Marrapatta, the School's Memorial Outdoor Education Centre. for the camp. With the assistance of Health Studies and Marrapatta staff. each student battled wild weather conditions to earn her Bronze Cross. According to Mr Fogarty. the Director of the Health Studies Faculty. 'The thing that separated the experience from all others was the weather'. An added difficulty was in the way that the 'casualties'. who were Human Movementstudies students from The University of Queensland. enhanced the realism of the scenarios

conditions as they performed activities ranging from basic first aid to a scenario with two injured and one casualty with no signs of life. Despite this challenging experience. the class grew as a family and enjoyed the time we spent away from our usual environment

Health Studies this year has not only been extremely fun. it has been very educational. in theory. we have learnt about the bones and muscles in the human body. We did a unit on nutrition and how we keep healthy with the food we eat. in proc. we have done lifesaving. athletics and Jump Rope for Heart I have enjoyed every moment of Health Studies. especially having Miss Marrel as my teacher

We have learned a variety of skills in Health Studies, including swimming. athletics, throwing and catching techniques, and volleyball. We think that it is fabulous that we are able to develop our expertise in these areas. As well as the athletic side to Health Studies. there is a theory side; this teaches us about the body. nutrition, health and much more. The Health Studies Faculty helps us with our personal health as well the safety of others
