I\/IATH^^^ CONIPETITION^
MATH^;^ TEAM CHALLENGE I have found that the Maths Team Challenge has been a great experience as I have formed closer bonds not only to Year 9 students but also to Year 10 girls, The teachers that accompanied us were very helpful as they taught us new tactics and helped us solve challenging questions The Maths Team Challenge is open to students in Years 8 to 12. and I am definitely participating again next year aAl\/IT Pi:?OBLEi\A ^;^OLVING COMPETITION The OAMT consists of five problem-solving questions to be resolved in the space of two hours. The competition is quite challenging and the questions involve a lot of thinking I thoroughly enjoyed participating as it enabled me to extend my mathematical thinking so much. I would definitely recommend the OAMT to anybody interested in Maths OLIVIA SUN 9 MACKAY
AU, :^T!?ALIAN TNTE!:?MEDIATE MATHEMATIC;^ OLYMPIAD
On 15 August. a group of Years 8-10 students sat the Australian Intermediate Mathematics Olympiad. a highly challenging four-hour modelling and problem- solving exam. it involved ten problems of increasing difficulty, with the final two requiring fully developed mathematical proofs. The Olympiad exposed us to unfamiliar problems which were unlike those encountered in class. hence expanding and improving our mathematical thinking. Nevertheless. the idea of doing Maths for half the school day was somewhat daunting - but everything changed when we were each rewarded with a bar of chocolate. I would recommend the Olympiad to anyone given the opportunity, as it is a very worthwhile and enjoyable experience
