We also attended various Maths classes at Ngee Ann Secondary School and Raffles Girls School. which were the two host schools. We were delighted to have the opportunity to observe school life in another country. Our final challenge was to test the effects of changing variables in the construction of a windmill. We were split into groups of different nationalities for our tasks which not only expanded our mathematical minds, but also increased our understanding of cultural differences. The day was spent researching. creating models. collecting data and putting our findings together in a presentation. Overall this trip was an amazing opportunity to develop independence, share school life in Singapore and expand our Mathematical Modelling skills.
SINGAPO!?E MATHEMATICAL MODELLING Foil?'UNi AND CHALLENGE During the July school holidays, Cara MCKelvie <11B), Hansa Sharma (110), Annaliese Thomas (11L) and myself, Sabrina Conwe11 <11L). accompanied by Mrs Muller and Ms Gunn, travelled to Singapore for the Singapore Mathematical Modelling Forum and Challenge. This consisted of learning about new programs, collecting data and modelling and presenting that data
We visited Universal Studios where we participated in various activities to collect data. We then had the opportunity to analyse and present our findings to the other teams.

,SCIENCE AND ENGINEEF?ING CHALLENGE
The Science and Engineering Challenge was held at the University of Queensland on I March. Teams of Year 9 and Year 10 girls attended. enthusiastic about participating in the activities Challenges included building chairs out of baisa wood, constructing Mars rovers that could transport materials over varying landscapes, and attempting to fly a hovercraft The showcase challenge. the Bridge Building. involved the construction of lightweight but also sturdy bridges that could withstand significant weights. Congratulations to the Bridge Building team who won this challenge. All activities offered the kind of challenges that allowed girls to work in teams and think 'out of the box'. taking into consideration factors of mathematics, science. structure. engineering and visual appeal to achieve Innovative results.
