^I'^ The equestrian s ason began with a w inny in February this yea . he team, consisting of a dozen riders, were a little apprehensive as to how well we would fare against the strong competition, but as usual the Grammar Girls took on the challenge and performed outstandingly in all competitions. With excellent team spirit and a love of the sport, we maintained a high standard of riding and continued to develop strong friendships within the team. As the outbreak of Equine influenza a little over a year ago limited both the number of competitions and the fitness of our horses, the year began with an uricharacteristic challenge. However, once we were literally back in the saddle there was no stopping us from doing exceptionally well across all disciplines. All girls performed coinmendably at State Championships and were proud to represent Brisbane Girls Grammar at this event. espite fewer participants, the Girls Grammar Equestrian Team continues to be strong and for this we would like to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of the girls in the t am, th ongoing support of our parents and coaches, and Miss A Stark as Equestrian Co- ordinator. 01^-^,^, 00 The 2008 Cross Country team enjoyed a fantastic season, defending the aGSSSA title for the 15th consecutive year. The legacy of success which exists within Girls Grammar Cross Country challenges the girls every year to up hold the School's victorious status at the annual aGSSSA competition. The girls responded to this challenge showing enthusiasm and determination, and their gruelling preparation achieved them a spectacular win. The successful day demonstrated team spirit, positive attitudes and dedication which characterised the season. With the support and mentoring of a close knit team of coaches, a strong foundation of fitness and team spirit was established. As well as training during Term I and Term 11, the team participated in holiday training during the Easter break and attended an extremely successful inaugural Cross Country camp. The camp was held at Marrapatta and as well as being lots of fun was extremely beneficial to our ongoing training programme. Preparation throughout the season also included a number of meets, where the girls had an opportunity to strengthen their racing techniques against a variety of competitors. This hard work produced outstanding results. The 13s, 14s, and 17s all achieved age group premierships and the 15s and 16s achieved third and second place respectively. These impressive places made Girls Grammar overall victors of the 2008 aGSSSA competition. Our impressive victory is a testament to the hard work and support of the Girls Grammar Cross Country coaching team, consisting of Mr M Turner, Mr B Ryan, Mr P Pierce, Mr L Joyce and Ms R MCLean (2005). Special thank you to our Co- ordinator, Miss K Nind, whose encouraging support and organisation enabled the season to run smoothly and effective Iy. We were honoured to lead this team and the girls should be proud of another memorable, successful and hugely enjoyable season-good luck for the 16th year! ICJ^I Jolt?,' 17^I ^MP ^ ^, in' 17^! ^'^'\^
