This year 132 very enthusiastic girls signed up for the 2008 rowing season and with our new head coach Mr P Morgan it was sure to be a great season. it began with the Year 8s "learn to row" sessions where the girls learnt how to manage single scull. After a few months of training to get back into the swing of things, the entire squad travelled to Kurwongbah for time trials that would determine the final crews. The determination shown by all the girls on this day was extremely encouraging for the regatta season. The next rowing expedition was in the June/July holidays, when the senior girls travelled to Maroochydore for the senior rowing camp. The weather held out for the first four days with near perfect rowing conditions for every training session. On the final morning the girls woke up to pouring rain, but despite this, pushed past their tired bones and weary muscles to participate in the traditional five kilometre race. The following week the junior rowing camp was held at the Brisbane Grammar School shed. The girls arrived at 7.00 am each morning to greet their crew and go out for two rowing sessions and the week CUIminated with pizza and games with the Open rowers. With months of hard training and five successful regattas, Head of the River was the culmination of the season where each and every girl performed to her utmost ability While this was the Year 8s first Head of the River, and hopefully inspired them to keep coming back for more, the Year 12s mourned their last Grammar row. This season rowers showed their true spirit on the day and pulled together as a squad to earn fifth place in the aggregate cup. We would like to thank the 2008 squad for displaying great enthusiasm across an amazing season. ^^' ^ ^@ ,^ ^ I^/

The 2007 and 2008 sailing season has proven to be extremely successful. Sunday mornings throughout Terms I and IV saw the arrival of highly enthusiastic sailors at the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron, ready to head out onto More ton Bay. The Year 8 Development Squad focused on improving the girls' boat handling skills in preparation for entry into the Competitive Squad next season. The Competitive Squad concentrated on teams' racing tactics as they trained for the upcoming competitions. This year saw a return to participation in the Queensland Schools' Teams Racing championships with a team entered in the both the girl's and junior divisions of the competition. All girls are to be congratulated on the high standard of racing displayed over three days during the Easter holidays, ich ended with the girls team receiving third place. Special mention must be given to the junior sailors who, despite minimal teams racing experience, competed as part of both teams. None of this would have been possible, however, without the dedication of our coaches and our ever keen and organised Co- ordinator Mr S Skillen. Judging by the previous season Grammar sailing seems destined for a future full of success. ^:'8E^^^ w'11^"^' 172^
