throughout the team continued to grow throughout the season. As one of the few Girls Grammar sports that have mixed Year level teams, friendships between the different Years blossomed and the overall bonding between the squad was amazing. Although a small sport, the gymnasts competed with pride for the School and supported each other throughout the competition. To kick off the competition our

ensure the season ran smoothly. This season we were also fortunate to field two teams in the Brisbane Basketball Club Under 16 and Girls Youth League (Under 20) competitions. These were a combination of QGSSSA players and new players with games held throughout Terms II and III. Despite mixed results, the girls continued to remain committed and enthusiastic. The entire Girls Grammar Basketball cohort is to be congratulated on how they played the game this season. They played with a sense of enjoyment, commitment and a high level of sportsmanship. Their hard work, friendship and talent have made this an exciting and memorable season School and Brisbane State High School. Lilly Bremner (9W) and Claire Maxwell (11R) led the charge for the Second XI with strong batting performances, helping to position their team in fourth place on the ladder. Strong bowling from Bronte Kieseker (10E) ensured that the Third XI finished the season in third place. The Fourth XI and Fifth XI competed in Division Three, in what was a season of learning and development. Congratulations must be extended to Lilly Bremner (9W) for winning this season’s Cricket Encouragement Award. The 2007 Artistic Gymnastics season proved to be very successful. In Term I, the trials saw many talented and experienced gymnasts as well as beginners turn up to show off their skills. Training continued throughout Term I with breakfasts and a “what not to wear” day to help the squad get to

division. Coached by 2006 Basketball Captain Miss Petra Watson, their Premiership came down to the final few seconds of the last game and was secured by a one point victory. As the QGSSSA results indicate, Girls Grammar once again benefited with the continued support and inspiration of an all-female coaching team. These dedicated coaches imparted a wealth of experience and first-hand knowledge showing us what it takes to perform at a highly competitive level. Most importantly, they believed in the ability of every team member and this was reflected throughout the season with growing confidence and improved skill levels of all players. We thank the coaches and our Co-ordinator, Mr Fogarty, who spent much time and energy organising and supporting us to players have shown great potential for the following seasons to come. Our First XI had an unlucky season in which they placed third overall but were only one win from the premiership title. The magnificent unity within the team allowed for fantastic displays on the field, allowing only a mere 236 runs in total to be scored against them, compared to an amazing mention must go to Belinda Templeton (12O) for a magnificent season with bat and ball. The Second XI and Third XI were both competing in Division Two against some stiff opposition from schools such as St Margaret’s Anglican Girls 305 run batting tally achieved throughout the season. This year, Girls Grammar basketball players revealed plenty of character, in that they displayed fierce determination and unwavering enthusiasm throughout the season. When combined with skill, desire and a sense of team, the 2007 QGSSSA season was most rewarding and successful. Following seven weeks of intensive training in Term I, our eight teams took to the hardwood floors, producing outstanding performances — finishing in the top half of the ladder in seven out of eight divisions. The success of the season has been a true testament to the dedication, supportive encouragement, organisation and talents of inspirational coaches Mr Greatorex and Mr Qian. which was a hit with students and sometimes even teachers! As the weeks progressed into Term III, training was increased for both juniors and seniors; with the seniors training at the Queensland Academy in Toowong. At beginning of Term IV, training gradually morphed into intense two-hour sessions held at the School, characterised by countless drills, footwork exercises and practice games. From here the competing team was also selected, where the girls were paired off in preparation for the QGSSSA Badminton Competition. Held at the end of October and beginning of November, the competition was spread over two Saturdays (a day each for the juniors and seniors) at Centenary State High School and Ipswich Girls Grammar School respectively. Although none of the teams finished the season with a premiership pocket, all girls played to the best of their ability and had fun. A positive attitude with sincere dedication and commitment towards matches was inspiring for all players who have strived from learning teamwork and playing with the utmost sportsmanship.
