O’Connor’sWonderfulYearThatWas

With the brownie legacy continued at Open Day, the Year 11s raised a huge amount of money for the East Timor Scholarship Fund, a worthy cause which O’Connor is proud to support. The year was unforgettable and a fantastic finale to the Year 12s time at Grammar, an incredible beginning for the Year 8s and just as memorable for all those in between. We would like to thank Miss Dare for her indispensable support and encouragement throughout the year and wish the House all the best for next year!

O’Connor was a competitive entry in the choir with a moving rendition of “Tears in Heaven” led by our very capable Choir Captains, Adelaide McKenzie and Nicola Shackwitz. Their leadership throughout this process culminated in one of O’Connor’s best performances ever. Shortly afterwards, O’Connor hit the stage with “SnowWhite and the Dreadful Dwarves”, a comic adaptation of the much loved classic. Our dedicated Drama Captains, Elizabeth McEniery and Jaclyn Lloyd, directed sixteen Year 8s and 9s to produce this well received theatre offering.

We began the year with Interhouse Volleyball which saw great sportsmanship between the Year 8s and their supporters. Then, we hit the blocks in March led by our House Sports Captains, Claire Blenkin and Centaine Mumford, for InterhouseSwimmingwithamazing success in all divisions. Interhouse Cross Country was another highlight for O’Connor spirit, with enthusiastic participation at all levels. Ice blocks were the order of the day at the end of the race and ourO’ConnorHouseGroupTeachers evengotinvolved!O’Connorshowed the might of the maroons on the track, on the field and in the stands, coming fifth in Interhouse Athletics in August.

With a vision this year to build more House spirit, we welcomed 26 new O’Connarians with sashes, games and chocolate in February. It was our idea with the help of Miss Dare to initiate a star chart, where good deeds and achievements could be acknowledged. This was a fun project that encouraged O’Connor’s all-star cast to get involved. The star chart produced a healthy competition between the House Groups who worked towards the reward of a pizza lunch.Through this, we were able to learn something new about everyone in the House which only proves there is strength in diversity.
