A year of change, community and champions

Woolcock House began the year with a bang, welcoming our new Year 8s with enthusiasm and spirit. Their first day was filled with fun activities and exciting discoveries when the Year 12s showed them the School and fed them ice blocks. Their first chance to shine was in Year 8 Interhouse Volleyball, where they revealed their talents, taking out the competition in style. Term I also had Interhouse SwimmingwheretheWoolcockatoos continued their winning streak, winning all categories. Special thanks must go to Woolcock’s Sports Captains, Sally Farquhar and Nhi-Tuyet Nguyen, who ensured that the day was packed full of yellow and lots of fun. Interhouse Athletics also proved to be filled with fun andWoolcockmanaged to continue their success, coming in third overall.

All fun aside, the focus for Woolcock House this year was service to others and so the House embarked upon a new endeavour deciding to sponsor a child through World Vision. Our first fundraiser for our sponsored child was a raffle with an enviable I-River as the prize. We managed to raise enough money to ensure sponsorship of a young girl, Nobelise Mawundu, for two years. Nobelise lives in South Africa and we were fortunate enough to have Mrs Cohen, (Year 12 House Group Teacher), recently arrived from there herself, provide us with excellent backgroundinformationonconditions in that part of the world. She spoke to us about Nobelise’s situation, affirming our commitment to this initiative. This will be an ongoing project for Woolcock House as we plan to sponsor Nobelise for many years to come.
