Astronomy unit, Year 9 students choose the Brisbane Planetarium as their outside classroom. Beginning in the gallery students study the various exhibits before moving into the SkyDome to experience the night sky Fleays Wildlife Park provides the Year 8 students with the opportunity to explore plant and animal classi cation as an extension to the "UVing Things" unit of study Guided by local rangers. the students were introduced to adaptations specific to marsupials, nocturnal animals and reptiles in the "Fur Feather and Scales" wildlife presentation, some lucky students had close encounters with a carpet python. a sugar glider and a tawny frogmouthl

Talented and motivated science students in Year 9 are invited to attend a Forensic Science Camp run by students in Years I O and I I from various schools under the guidance of teachers from The Armidale School. Julia Colwi11 19Gl and Nexandra Greensmith 19Hj attended the Camp during the Easter holidays. Julia writes: together and solve in-depth cases provided by talented students from past camps. Everyone came away form the camp with newfound friends and an amazing experience in forensic science Solving the cases was hard work that demanded patience and a strong understanding of science, but in the end it was a very rewarding experience ESC was an amazing, fun filled week and I encourage anyone provided with the opportunity, to go and have a great timel Forensic Science Camp was an amazing experience for all involved. it provided an opportunity for likeminded peers to come

>.. Year I I Biology students complete two field trips through the year as extensions to their study of classification and ecology. The rocky shore at Point Cartwright, Underwater World and the mangroves. sandflats and rainforests of North Stradbroke Island provide ideal locations for students to study a wide diversity of organisms in their natural habitats in late July, twenty outstanding Year 12 Biology students attended a lecture series hosted by the Queensland Institute of Medical Research Throughout the day, research scientists and post graduate students gave short presentations on some of the current, cutting edge medical research being undertaken at the Institute
