>.. Determination, dedication, enthusiasm and the true blue Grammar spirit are what made this 2003/04 Grammar Softball season so enjoyable. it was also a season of firsts. This is the first time we recognized a "full" summer season incorporating the 8,9 and I O season with the Open and Senior Competition, CUIminating in a combined celebratory dinner in March. The introduction of the new senior uniform was highly successful and another first, with Grammar looking very professional and much cooler. it was also the first time fixtures were cancelled due to heat, severely reducing the Open season. The Open team placed equal third with State High. an excellent achievement considering only 5 of the 9 fixtures were played due to ran, damaged fields and heat The team beat their archrivals, Somerville House, in a tense game, which showcased the talent of both teams. Grammars determination was evident, particularly in this game and some outstanding batting and fielding performances were recorded Very strong overall batting performances were a highlight of the season Kale Martin 112Wj achieved the highest batting Shannon 110Ej and Jadyn Vos100112Lj. who all achieved an average of 400. making significant contributions to the success of the team. These performances were complemented by the teams ability in the field The Senior A team Is to be highly coinmended on their second consecutive average of .500, ably supported by Laura Kidd 112Lj, Nina Hogan 112Wj. Alexander
undefeated aGSSSA victory. Rebecca amier 112Mj and Fiona Barker 112Ej were an outstanding battery, while Alexandra Kidd 11 I Gl is to be applauded for her excellent batting performances throughout the season. Each member of the team contributed significantly to the exceptional result, proving the depth of Grammar Softball and that a team with courage and fortitude 15 a positive role model to alljunior players in 2003. the Year 8A and B teams made memorable debuts Into Grammar Softball. placing second and third respectively. The 8As were narrowly defeated 5-6 in their final game, the premiership decider but are to be coinmended on their "never say die" attitude throughout their short but hectic season. The Year 9A team won their second consecutive undefeated premiership. while the 9Bs placed first, only losing one game 2003 saw. once again, the entry of two Year I O teams into the A competition. The I OAS were placed fourth and the BS ninth, an excellent achievement considering the skill of some very experienced opponents Both teams displayed excellent sportsmanship and set a positive example for the younger grades to follow The 2003/04 Softball season proved to be a successful one with excellent results achieved in all year groups. With the experienced coaching staff and continued commitment of all players, Grammar Softball can only reach new heights next season
