PERFORMANCE

H AM LET This Year our senior girls were, once again, asked to participate in the Brisbane Grammar School Senior Production. The director, Mr Michael Beh, created a visual feast in his stylised version of Shakes peare's play. A massive ramp was cleverly manipulated to create different settings and the costumes made use of black and white high fashion elements to achieve a modern and stylish effect. The white-based painted faces enhanced the sense of the misuse of power. Suzuki movement work and intense

Gabriella Ritchie more than held her own as a female version of Horatio and Lauren Williams was a suitably regal Gertrude. it is doing the play an injustice to single out any other individual performances as the combination of all the members of the cast and the overall visual impact of the play were what I will remember for a long time

levels of focus, led to some thought- provoking reinterpretations of the characters' motivations As a result of all this, Joseph Collings, as Hamlet, cleverly seemed to be an ordinary type of bloke stifled by all the ceremony of the court. Francesca Bianchi played Ophelia as a damaged and frightened Young woman, unable to cope with the people who were manipulating her. Involving the ghost of Hamlet's father in more scenes was another interesting touch.
