LANGUAGE AND LITERACIES

On Thursday afternoons, Asian language students from both schools flock to the art studios for calligraphy sessions conducted by Mr Eimatsu Koiima, a distinguished teacher whose work has been selected for display in the Tokyo Ueno Art Gallery. The students enjoy learning the finer points of brush stroke and flow as they create their characters and messages In script. These enrichment sessions have proved very popular

Students practising their calligraphy technique Junior school language students extended their language experiences beyond the classroom with native speakers teaching them how to play popular games from their respective-country. Herr Richard Hamernik led Year 8 German students in energetic games of handball where only the German language was permitted. Year 8 French students welcomed M. Henri Niquet from the aueensland Association of Petanque to the School in September to demonstrate and help students develop their skills in boules playing
