CLASSROOM MUSIC Through the compulsory study of Music this Year, all Year 8 students were introduced to the exc'ting dimensions of listening, composing and performing. Girls experienced a range of fun and challenging activities during the course. Tuition on guitar and drums CUIminated in a Stomp performance in Semester I. and the students broadened their musical horizons through performance and composition in a range of musical styles during Semester 11. One highlight of 2003 for the Year 9 Music class wa a class excursion to the School of Music at The University of Queensland. The girls were thrilled to get a glimpse of university life, and appreciated the opportunity to meet Music students from other schools and consolidate work that is done in the classroom. In Term I, Year 10 students were fortunate to participate in a workshop with Wala, a performance group from Ghana. Towards the end of the Year, girls concentrated on developing their composing skills in order to create a class musical from student- devised material. Year 11 students have worked hard to develop skills in preparation for their final Year, CUIminating in the successful Film Night at the end of Term 111, with students composing, performing and conducting their own film scores in the Gehrmann Theatre. Our Music Extension students, drawn from Year 12 Music, have worked consistently this Year. The girls have excelled in this performance-based cou rse. Their final concert in the beginning of Term N showcased these talented in us ICia ns performing at a sophisticated level. Mr A Pennay Co- ordinator of Classroom Music
