.. BGS connections at hene
Not only has At hene allowed us the opportunity for intellectual enlightenment but also it has created many new friendships. The At hene Club offers a friendly, casual Yet intellectually challenging environment that facilitates and strengthens connections with Brisbane Grammar School. Serious discussion is coupled with 10 of laughter and a section of each meeting is allocated to socializing and eat'rig the sumptuous suppers provided by the host school students The At hene Club would like to acknowledge the ongoing support of Dr Robyn Colwill and Mr David Betts, who coordinate the Club. This Year we were also delighted to welcome Mrs Bell and Dr Lennox to one of our meetings. The 2002 members of the At hene Club have enjoyed the challenge and stimulation that it generates and we know that the Club will continue to flourish in the Years ahead
Athene Club
in 2002, the Athene Club, a group of senior students from BGGS and BGS. held regular evening meetings to listen to the presentation of papers and then discuss a range of issues arising from these. Throughout the Year there have been many thought-provoking papers and much animated discussion. Topics covered during the Year ranged from current issues, including the right of women to maternity leave and the IVF debate, to broader social issues such as social justice and the role of the med'a. Papers are often presented in originals ways - David Challin's paper on feminism was written entirely in rhyming verse! There were heartfelt discussions and reflections following a paper on the September 11 terrorist attacks The varied topics and contrasting views attest to the diverse experiences and opinions of the various members of this exciting club. All the speakers have inspired and challenged the group in accordance with the original aims of the club: to provide a venue outside the classroom for 'ritellectual engagement and development
