A taste of other cultures The 86GSj BGS French dinner on October 8 was a definite highlight In this Year's curriculum. Year 11 French students were invited by Brisbane Grammar School boys Iby a letter in Frenchj to go to Le Bressan. a French restaurant In Stafford Approximately forty students and ten staff from the Languages Departments of the two schools attended the evening. The girls sat with their correspondent from BGS and the French chef, Thierry. explained the menu in French. The menu offered authentic cuisine including escargot. boeuf bourguignon and creme bralee. The night served as a fantastic evening to make new friends and to inculge in new tastes

On Thursday October 10, more than thirty boys from Brisbane BOYS Grammar accompanied 18Yearll and Year12 girls to King Ludwig's Restaurant at MalenY There was a three course German meal and traditional German entertainment including singing and games. in German of course. The hat dance and the chicken dance, with some rather crazy headwear, were highlights of the evening

Year 12 Japanese Dinner 2002

The BGGS Year 12 Japanese class. together with three eXchange students from our sister schoolin Japan had a combined dinner with the Year 12 Japanese class from Marist Brothers. Ashgrove at the Kabuki Japanese Restaurant in The Stainford Plaza on Monday, August 12 A Japanese set menu was served for all in a traditional box type tray. which consists of small compartments for a variety of dishes; tempura lined dishj. sushi, cooked meat and vegetables, grilled dish, salad, pickles, etc. A bowl of rice, miso soup, tea and a desert of fruits were also included. All students enjoyed themselves and experienced traditional Japanese table manners, such as using chop sticks and sipping miso soup from the bowl, in an authentic environment I prepared name cards for everyone in Japanese and placed them in front of each student. Instead of introducing each other in the normal way, I gave three pieces of information per person in Japanese for the boys to make a good guess to Identify the person. The girls similarly had to do the same. In this way. students broke the ice and the time went on very quickly
