Downey Park Hockey The 2002 Club Hockey season. held from March to September, once again proved to be an integral part in the development of Grammar hockey players. BY fielding an extra team jinade up of Senior A playersi in the Intermediate competition in addition to the intermediate One and J5 teams, the Open and Senior A players were able to gain valuable team experience in preparation for the aGSSSA season The Intermediate One team experienced outstanding successes, dominating all opposition and remaining undefeated for the season. The grand final was won in convincing style, defeating Valley 4-0. Despite having a new goalie each week. only one goal was conceded through the season. At the other end of the field. We ridy Chilvers was the highest goal scorer. with an impressive contribution of 17 goals to the season total of 68 The Intermediate Two team. coached by Kath Barem. finished the season in a credible fifth place. Excellent defence was also demonstrated by the players of this team in the goal box. as they also lacked a permanent goalkeeper. Strong field performances were displayed by Madeline Spooner and Surenna Morgan Comprised of mainly Senior A players, it allowed the girls valuable pre-aGSSSA season games in order to get to know each other's strengths and also form a cohesive bond. This ultimately proved very beneficial for their success In the aGSSSA competition Under the strong guidance of Sarah Doo1an Nicholson. the 15 team improved greatly throughout the season to gain a forth placing after being unfortunately defeated by Logan in the semi-final. Katherine Dick, Tegan Watts and Katherine Sheehy are to be coinmended on their performances throughout the season The majority of the girls in this team had never played hockey before, but under the expert tutelage of the coach and support of parents, these girls had an enjoyable season. whilst displaying their Grammar spirit, and they should be highly coinmended for their efforts For another Year the BGGS Club season proved successful. with final berths for two of the three teams. Successes were also achieved in skill improvement. team camaraderie and fun
