Cross Country In 1993 Cross Country training involved going to Victoria Park a few times a week, eating McDonalds and hiding behind trees. in 1994 this all changed. Mr Tony Booth became coach and in that same Year, Grammar became overall aGSSSA Cross Country champions. BGGS has now held this victorious title for nine consecutive years, which is an astonishing achievement unmatched by any other school This remarkable success reflects Mr Booth's skill, dedication and inspiration as one of the best youth athletics coaches around and Miss Barrett's co- ordination, spirit. organisation and leadership After training for seven weeks in Roma Street Parklands and Victoria Park, the 2002 Cross Country racing season began with the annual Inter house Competition, held on April 10. This meet again proved to be successful with high participation from allyear levels. For the first time since 1988 Gibson won this competition, followed by Hirschfeld and then England. The Inter house Cross Country Champion Medallion was awarded to Year 11 student, Felicity Abram, for running the 2km course in the fastest time of 6.48 min. The Age Champion Pennants were presented to Rachel Ferris IYear 81.519rid Mewing IYear 91. Kate Leitch IYear 101 and Annabelle Matthews ryear 121 Following the Inter house Competition, Grammar competed in the nine lead-up events. Grammar ran the largest team (up to 70 athletesI In every aGSSSA meet and was the only girls' school to compete in the GPS competition. Indeed. at the Churchie relays, Girls Grammar runners placed in front of many boys! Consistently top performers in these events were Fellcity Abram - 16 Years, 5 fastest times; Sigrid Mewing - 14 Years, 3 fastest times; Rachel Ferris - 13 Years, 4 fastest times
