2002 was a special Year in Grammar's sporting history as it was the first season in which the School entered a full selection of teams in the aGSSSA Touch competition. The season began with encouraging numbers of future Touch champions attending our trials and it was unfortunate, as well as promising, for the sport that more students trialled than could be accommodated in the five teams 2002 Touch was characterized by tough, well-fought matches. positive attitudes and great sportsmanship on behalf of all our girls, and our competition as well. Given most players had never played competitive Touch. this was very much a building Year, one which has laid a sound foundation for continued improvement and achievement in this new school sport It is pleasing to note that this achievement was not at the expense of the girls' enjoyment with laughter heard before, after, and at many times during the games A victory early in the season for the Year 8 team against St Margaret's demonstrated this team's potential and ability and gave the Grammar

enthusiasm and dedication at both

trainings and games and were deserving Iy awarded with wins against St Peter's Lutheran College, Brisbane State High School, ipswich Girl's Grammar and Moreton Bay College The Year 85' second placing in the competition should give the school great heart for the future as these and other Younger players come through to senior ranks The Year 9 team had a tentative start to the season against an exceptional and more experienced level of competition. Again, this game was new to many of the girls and the attitude with which they tackled this challenge was excellent. With perseverance and spirited support from the sidelines, the girls soon mastered the fast pace and ball skills required to play this challenging sport and this was duly reflected in their improving results throughout the season The Year 10 team showed sparks of brilliance and put together some solid performances as a team. They were unlucky on numerous occasions with many close matches falling to the opposition. Unfortunately, some results appeared to favour the team who coped best with the fading light of 5.00pm fixtures rather than the skills and effort of respective players. This is an issue that needs to be addressed by the administrators of the competition in the 2003 season

The somewhat inexperienced Open team faced the great task of competing against talented opposition sides who were clearly well drilled in the disciplines of the game. This challenge was met with enthusiasm, comradeship and a good sense of humour as the
