During the July holidays, three Year 10 students, Maggie Lin. Rachael Williams and Kalpana Maharage attended a series of workshops and seminars over three days at OUT The workshops, run by OUT's Faculty of Information Technology, were designed specifically for girls to give them an awareness of the options open to them for study in the IT field This is the first year these workshops have been available and ten schools were invited to send three students each. Students were engaged in a number of activities including Reassembling a computer, Java programming, Building a network community, Data encryption,

Web page development, Database development

There were also a series of talks from women in IT and female QUT students who are currently studying IT either as a first or second degree The three days were very well organised and gave the girls an effective insight into the opportunities available from studying IT both at school and beyond
