On behalf of all debaters I would like to thank Miss Williams for her organization and support this year and all the team coaches whose invaluable assistance, enthusiasm and encouragement have contributed to the success of each team The dedication and determination of debaters, coaches and supporters has made 2001 a fantastic debating season. The high standard displayed by all girls is a great indication of even further success for Girls Grammar debating in the future

After selection, the team undertook two weeks of intensive training in preparation for the national competition which was held in Sydney during Term Three The Queensland team performed very well in this challenging competition under Caltlint; captain

Claire Olive, Titany Sproles, Claire Stewart and Sandra Turk and the Senior A team with Samantha Bonning, Caltlin Goss, Genevieve Thornson and Claire 0150n both made it through to the semi-finals The high standard of Grammar debating was also evident in the Red Cross 'Arguing for Life' Competition The two Grammar teams, consisting of 85,95 and 10s, debated extremely well and both teams should be congratulated for making it through to the final rounds The undeniable highlight of the 2001 Debating calendar was Caitlin Goss's selection as Captain of the Queensland State Debating Team Caltlin is the first student from Girls Grammar to be awarded this position on the State Team and her selection was evidence of the great depth of her debating talent. To obtain this position Caltlin had to undergo a series of knockout debates, attend rigorous training sessions, complete a

Debating This year Grammar has proven to be a formidable competitor on the debating floor. Each QDU team has been highly successful with ten of the fourteen teams arguing their way to the final rounds of the competition Teams which should be congratulated for making it to the finals are. Year 8(I), Year 8(4), Year 96). Year 10(3), Year 11(I), Year 11(2), Year 12 and Senior A teams The final rounds always provide an additional challenge for debaters as they are knockout debates and occur more frequently with the standard of competition being extremely high Every team met this challenge admirably but three in particular are to be coinmended for their performance.
