ONE HOUR WITH YEAR 8 AND THE SCIENCE CLASS

by a Grandmother who was there

One week on a Thursday the day came around When Year 8 was open to relatives sound, Grandmothers, Grandfathers, not any more, We came to the lesson and saw what we saw. The teacher was brimming with knowledge divine, The students were listening and doing their work fine, Chemistry was the subject, and atoms were there, Linked into molecules, pair upon pair. The time went so quickly, and soon it had ended, No models were broken, none needed to be mended. They were safely in their bags, awaiting the next class, Handled so carefully, just like they're glass 'What's the symbolfor lead?'the teacher then asked, The right answer came, and she set a new task Homework was set and the girls packed their books, Going off to their roll call, with satisfied looks. The Nans and the Pops thought of school-days long g And marvelled at the teaching, now yea and non. And so we went off to our homes and our life, No longer the challenge, the worry and strife. These girls hold the key to a new world that's bright, As long as they keep clear objectives in sight. Next year there'11 be others, and then there'11 be more. To learn all the knowledge that's still there in store Projects abound, girls work their own pace, A future lies waiting for this human race.

The practices change as the years roll away, But schooling's forever, a system to stay.
