Adelia Ng displayed awesome dribbling skills up the court to give BGGS some great shooting opportunities. Charlotte Yellowlees demonstrated great defensive skills and was very skilful in getting herself into position to steal the ball from the opposition. Despite the fact they only won one game across the season, the girls showed great enthusiasm, both at training and at games, and great determination to continue playing basketball. Of special mention is Hannah Lilley, who despite an injury at the start of the season, rejoined the team towards the end and played some great basketball. All players improved their playing skills dramatically and will increase the depth in Grammar Basketball for 2001. The Under 18 team bonded together from the beginning, and played some great basketball across the season. Their enthusiasm for the game was unfortunately not reflected in the scoreboard at the end of the season. This team did not win any games throughout the season, however they played with great determination and skill. All players demonstrated great dribbling and passing skills; of particular mention is Am anda Wong, whose dribbling and shooting skills were exceptional and made her a key figure in many of the Under 18 team's goals. All team members displayed great commitment to the game and are to be coinmended on this. The Encouragement Award for 2000 was awarded to Under 18 player, Ngaio Miller. Both teams demonstrated dedication, enthusiasm and fine sportsmanship throughout the season, up holding Grammar's creditsble reputation in Basketball.
BBI BASKETBALL
The 2000 Basketball season started at the beginning of Term Two, and from the outset, Grammar basketballers were determined to demonstrate true spirit, in both success and defeat. The season gave both teams a terrific opportunity to develop their skills in a friendly and fun atmosphere. This year Grammar entered two teams into the Brisbane Basketballlncorporated (BBl) Championship season, Under 14 and Under 18. The decreased number of BBl teams is due to the increased number of QGSSSA teams in 2000. The Under 14 team began the season with only six players, most of whom had never played basketball before. By their final game, the team had pulled together and was playing very competitive basketball.
BWHA HOCKEY
through the season. Jessica Christiansen must be coinmended for the way in which she held o in the goal box under intense pressure during the final series. The team was unlucky to lose the preliminary final to our tough competitors, University, I-3, in overtime. A fantastic third place was achieved through hard work and determination by all. Many girls fro this team will play each other after school as they join other club teams in future seasons. The is team, coached by Kath Barem, another past student, enjoyed a successful season at Downey Park. This experience was for some their first season of hockey. Michelle Brady and Katharine Lyons performed consistently each week and helped to unite the girls against their opposition. The J5 team have developed proficient skills and gained valuable hockey match experience throughout the 2000 BWHA season. The increase in QGSSSA hockey teams has resulted in a decrease in the number of teams Grammar can field in the BWHA competition. However, the opportunity to play a new sport, develop hockey skills and participate in a BGGS hockey team exists through the club hockey program.
Grammar fielded two club teams this year in the Downey Park competition. The DPS team consisted of Senior QGSSSA players who would combine on a Saturday afternoon to play women often twice their age. This team was coached by Cathy Taylor-Alt. The team began strongly, winning the President's Cup for the team with the most points half-way
