CRICKET

Grammar cricketers again proved that they are a force to be respected. This season, the School fielded five teams, the highest ever by Grammar, reaping success in all three divisions. The Firsts attacked the season with enthusiasm and dedication, finishing second in the 1st division. The team met Brigidine in the grand final, a challenge readily accepted by all. Unfortunately on the day they lost by 12 runs, an honourable margin. Jusveer Rakhra and Catherine Hinds lead the way in the bowling with Jusveer taking the only hat-trick in the competition and being named most consistent. Catherine finished equal leading wicket taker for the division. Clare Kenny took to the gloves for the first time this season and performed enthusiastically. Consistent batting and fielding from Kirby Short, Kylie Gray, Jillian Stack and Sally Clout, Geordan Shannon, Laura Gay, Tanya Ross and Katherine Clarkson added depth to the team.

The Seconds completed an excellent season, filled with success and enthusiasm. They finished top of second division but were unfortunately beaten by the closest of margins in the grand final against St John Fisher. Excellent performances were recorded from each member of the team with special mention of Tegan Davey, for being the second highest run scorer in this division. Consistent bowling from Claire Olive helped to keep the other sides in check and special congratulations must go to Christin a Nisbet-Smith for her excellent captaincy of the team. The thirds, capably lead by Jessica Harrison, took to each match with characteristic spirit and dedication. Consistent performances from the whole team ensured that they finished off the season on a high, finishing fourth in second division. Special congratulations must go to grade 8, Laura Kidd, for her star debutin the final two games. The fourths showed that cricket does not always have to be deadly serious with their laidback and sometimes-innovative approach to the game of cricket. All the players showed great enthusiasm and were rewarded by finishing third in the third division, a result that was welljustified. The fifths, comprising of Grade Tens or younger, brought a new atmosphere to Grammar cricket with their unique style of play and approach to the sometimes-stereotyped game of cricket. All showed a keenness to learn and improve and it showed when they drew one and won the last of their three games. Special recognition must go to Hope Adams, who so capably led this side. In the Christmas holidays, some girls from the First Eleven attended the Boys' Grammar Cricket Camp at Northgate. All the girls found this a rewarding experience with coaching from Australian wicketkeeper, Julian Price, and ex-Australian coach, Bob Simpson. This camp is highly recommended for anyone who is considering playing next season. Congratulations to all the players in all the teams, because even though your name may not be mentioned above you all played exceptionally well and helped to make this one of the best seasons yet for Grammar Cricket.
