The commitment and enthusiasm displayed by each athlete at pre-season training and throughout the initial UQ meets, signalled the arrival of a dynamically strong Track and Field Squad in 2000. It was evident that all girls were eager to improve on the team's 1999 performance, and all squad members are to be coinmended for their subsequently sound training ethic ... despite the garish 1980s hairstyles that appeared one afternoon! Held at QEllon Monday 14 August, the annual Interhouse Athletics Carnival provided an exciting record-breaking start to the 2000 competition season. Spurred on by the electric atmosphere of the day, many personal best performances were recorded by athletes in both the field and on the track. The most outstanding performances undoubtedly came from the six individual age champions: 13 years: Kate Leitch 14 years: Lara Ulasowski and Matilda Gunn 15 years: Frances Bain 16 years:Courtney Gumbley 17 years Sally Moore Kate Leitch and Frances Bain were equal on points but, for the third consecutive year, Frances Bain was named, under the rules of the competition, the BGGS Overall Athletics Champion as she had competed in both track and field events. Frances demonstrated immense talent and sportsmanship whilst competing. Congratulations Franky!! With their outstanding depth of talent, Lilley House emerged as victors of the carnival, followed by Grimth and Gibson House.
