The Grade 10 team proved to be a dominant force in their division, finishing second overall to Moreton Bay College. Under the direction of last year's Hockey captain, Di HOPIey, the team thrived and this was evident in the scorelines of each match. Am anda Cheales and Elizabeth Wheeler played consistently throughout the season. Grammar Hockey looks forward to the contribution of these girlsin seasons to come. The Grade 9 team remained enthusiastic throughout the season. Coached by Penny Mackenzie, one of our Olympic torch bearers, they improved each week and came fourth overall. The team drew many games in which they were unlucky not to score. With the skills of Rachael Doo1an Nicholson, and the perseverance of Lauren Harrison, the games were more than enjoyable to watch. The Year 8 team finished the season well in third place. Under the coaching of Emma Walters, this group of girls who had never played together before, steadily improved and finished with a long winning streak. Nicole Cheales and Kate Leitch proved to be successful strikers and aided the team to several impressive victories during their first season of Grammar hockey. Next year promises to be a challenging one, with the Hockey season commencing with a series of pre-season clinics in term one. This aims to provide students with the opportunity to revise basic skills and improve team and matchplay in readiness for the QGSSSA trials in March.

HOCKEY

The 2000 Hockey season began in February with all players quick to return to blistering form. Each team contained different personalities but all shared the same dedication and enthusiasm now synonymous with Grammar Hockey. The annual hockey breakfast in May and dinner in September were well attended by all teams and displayed the girls' commitment to their sport, a commitment carried on by the six coaches, all past students, The Open team encountered mixed success this year. The standard of Open hockey has increased dramatically this year and unfortunately the results of the QGSSSA competition do not reflect the intensity of each game. Despite enthusiasm and the expertise of coach Cathy Taylor-Alt, the team found it difficult to score against quality opposition. In hindsight, the season will be memorable for all players as it has been a rewarding experience and allowed the girls to develop maturity on the field while enjoying, for many of the girls, their last season of hockey for Grammar. No one girl from the Open team can be singled out as all members of the team contributed whole-hearted Iy during the long and demanding season. In the Telstra Cup competition the open team convincing Iy won their first round match against St Peters. They were unfortunately defeated in the second round by All Hallows in an extremely close game during 7 minutes of extra time. The Senior A team, coached by Rachael Murray, began the season in fine form and won games by large margins throughout the season. Unfortunately, some close games did not go their way, but they did not allow this to dampen their spirits. Overall, the team finished fourth. Led by captain Anna MCGilvery, the team thoroughly enjoyed their successful Freyr Patterson coached the Senior B team this year. Although not every school fielded a team in this division, the team enjoyed themselves every time they took the field. Jennifer Wheeler proved to be a dominant force in the centre, leading the team to many victories. Their fourth placing does not adequately reflect the dedication or improvement made by all players throughout the season. season.
