QGSSSA BASKETBALL
The 10A's final results do not reflect their great improvement and perseverance. Their games were always very close and their final placing of fifth overallin this tough division is a great achievement of which the girls should be proud. Shooting duties were shared amongst all team members. A1icia Stumm proved to be the top shooter for the team, scoring in excess of thirty individual points across the season. The TOBs had an extremely memorable season gaining the premiership for this division. The team, coached by 1998 Basketball Captain, Kate Wagner, lost only one game to the team with whom they eventually shared the premiership, IPswich Girls Grammar. it came down to the final game of the season against St Peters, which BGGS had to win, to ensure the premiership. The girls won the game convincing Iy, 49-19, then had to wait to find out whether IPswich had won their game to determine final placings. For the Senior As (otherwise known as the"'Social As") the season was enjoyable and gratifying, placing third in the competition. Throughout their games they demonstrated great improvement and enthusiasm for the sport, and their high levelof spirit carried them through both the highs and lows of their season. On the court all players were supportive of each other, and even in games such as that against IGGS, all players continued to support each other and keep the team positive The spirit was also reflected in their constant support of the Open team, where they were always on hand to perform a number cheers, lead by Elizabeth Armstrong and Emma Montague. The Open team experienced a year that was challenging, yet rewarding. The highlight of the season was the defeat of long-standing rivals, Somerville House, by one point in the final moments of the game, scored by A1annah Irvine. A1annah also scored the winning pointin the game against Moreton Bay College, which too came down to the last minute of the game. This was a great reflection of the talent and perseverance of these girls' Their final placing of third is a terrific achievement. Congratulations must be extended to outgoing students Lauren Goode, Amelia Kerlin and Aleta Archer, all of whom played A level basketball throughout their five years at Grammar. Overall, Grammar basketball has experienced a most memorable and fulfilling season for 2000. The high standard displayed by all girls is a great indication of even further success for Grammar basketball in future seasons.
The Grammar Basketball season for 2000 has been a highly successful and enjoyable one' This year there was a record number of eight teams entered into the QGSSSA competition and all teams can be credited with leaving their mark on the sport. Throughout the entire season, the commitment and enthusiasm of all girls involved was amazing. In this, the fifth year of the inclusion of basketball into the QGSSSA competition, it has been exciting to see such high levels of dedication and participation. The depth and talent within Grammar basketball for 2000 are reflected in the number of representative players selected throughout the year. Sasha Ulasowski was selected in the Metropolitan North Open Team. Sarah Cohen and Rachel Wilkinson were both selected to play in the Metropolitan North Under 15 team. These girls are to be congratulated on their achievements. Both the Year 8As and 8Bs made a memorable debut with these teams gaining overall positions of third and first respectively. Katherine Davis commenced the season with an amazing first game, scoring 25 out of the team's 55 points. The Year 885, coached by Belinda Deal (Basketball captain 1999), began with an outstanding win over IPswich Grammar, defeating them 36 to 2. Laura Fisher had a terrific game, scoring 13 individual points. Original placing had the team in third place. However, on a recheck of results it was discovered the team shared the premiership with two other schools. These results are an excellent indication of great things to come for Grammar basketball. In the Year 9 division, both teams experienced rewarding seasons with the 9As placing first and the 9Bs placing third. In addition to this, the Year 9A team remained undefeated for the entire season. The team worked incredibly well together on the court, at times almost able to predict each other's moves. Top shooters for the team were Sanh Cohen, Lisa Weatherstone, and Matilda Gunn. The Year 9B team always enjoyed their games, with players such as ; Gemma Deal constantly encouraging and ' supporting their teammates. This helped the players to some terrific wins; such as the 54 to 2 o Q e scoreline over St Peters in the final round. -.
