Other Age Champions were Elyse Chant - 13 yrs; Danielle Gregory - 14 yrs; Sarah Holtam - 15 yrs; Courtney Gumbley - 16 yrs. A number of school records fellthat day. These included Caroline Gregory (Open loom Breaststroke and 16 yrs 50m Freestyle), Belinda Neve11 (17 yrs 50m Freestyle), Courtney Gumbley (16 yrs 50m Butterfly) and Stephanie Hall (17 yrs 50m Butterfly Div B). The week leading up to the QGSSSA Swimming Carnival was particularly positive. It included relay change-over training sessions, where teams were pitted against each other, a team breakfast in the Boarding House, and a "Rev-up"assembly where members of the school community lead by the Cheersquad wished the team good-luck. It left no doubts that BGGS would perform exceptionally well on Saturday 18 March 2000. And they did. Under the committed leadership of captains, Anna Moore and Belinda Nevell, and assisted by Team Manager, Julia Witherow, BGGS swimmers blitzed the pool at the 51eeman Sports Centre, coming second to Somerville House, with Moreton Bay College third. Grammar was placed first in a number of individual events. We congratulate: Jessica Moles - 17yrs 50m Freestyle Div D Anna Moore - 17yrs 50m Freestyle Div B Courtney Gumbley - 16yrs 50m Butterfly Sarah Holtam - 15yrs 50m Backstroke Amy Hillhouse should also be coinmended for setting a new record in her 50m Freestyle event, with a great time of 28.91 sec. Grammar also performed wellin the relays, placing in the top threein eleven of the events. This included two first placings: The Open Brockway Cup, for a freestyle relay independent of the overall points score, was an outstanding race to watch with the Grammar girls swimming an outstanding relay, coming in a close second to Somerville House. The girls in the Junior Brockway Cup swam gamely into eighth place. The 16 years age group performed exceptionally and placed firstin their age group. Other placings in age group championships were as follows:13yrs - sixth, 14yrs - third, 15yrs - third, 17 years and over - second.
