06SSSA sport

The 2000 season marked the beginning of a new competition format with up to six gymnasts in each team, four competing on each apparatus with the top 3 scores to count. This has provided more opportunities for girls to represent BGGS in Artistic Gymnastics at QGSSSA level. The average score of the BGGS teams for all routines over the two days was 8.9 out of I O. This is a great indication of the talent, dedication and spirit of Grammar gymnasts. The Grade 8 teams comprised of nine highly enthusiastic girls' This was made evident at the 80s training session with all of the girls dressed in suitable 80s attire. The two teams placed firstin both divisions, with a record breaking overall score. Courtney Park was an outstanding performer at this level. Courtney averaged 96 on all apparatus. Both D Grade teams gained their respective premierships with Natalie Cronstoun being the top scorer in this competition. With only one C Grade division, six gymnasts represented Grammar and successfully won their premiership pennant. B Grade Teams I and 2 placed first and third respectively within the single competition. Due to the high standard of Grammar gymnasts, two teams were entered in this division, with an outstanding performance by Cassandra Farmer on bars. One team was entered in the A Grade competition. This team placed second to strong rivals, More ton Bay College. The team consisted of Nickie-Lee Hew, Claudia Campbell, Chloe Watts, Gemldine Wright, Danielle Morrison and Anna Hill. The gymnasts should be very proud of their outstanding efforts in this division. The level of competition was extremely high. To conclude a successful season, a break-up barbecue was held at BGGS where gymnasts and families reminisced about the tragic 80s training session and competition highlights. Awards were presented to provide outstanding gymnasts with much deserved recognition. Winners of each apparatus and overall grade winners were honoured. Encouragement and most improved awards were also made for each grade. A special mention must be made of to Kate Dobbrick, Jessica Hyne, Alexia Saeck and A1ysha Brown who have represented Grammar Artistic Gymnastics for five years' Their commitment and dedication make them wonderful role models for the young gymnasts. With the introduction of the incredibly successful Spring Hill Gymnastics Club last year, BGGS gymnasts have been given the opportunity to train in the off-season and compete in regional, state and national titles. This experience contributed to the 2000 QGSSSA Artistic Gymnastics competition being Girls Grammar's most successful in eleven years' This is a great indication of the hard work and dedication of all gymnasts, their coaches and supporters, which should continue into 2001 and the future, providing Grammar with many more years of success.

ARTISTIC GYMNASTICS

The 2000 Artistic Gymnastics season was very successful and highly rewarding for all team members. The depth of Grammar gymnastics was recognised at the annual QGSSSA competition held at Moreton Bay College on 18 and 19 May. BGGS gymnasts dominated the competition held over the two days, achieving six out of seven premierships.
