MIRANDA CARSON THE VALDA GILLIES PRIZE FOR PIANO Awarded for a performance of a set piece by Mozart or Bach. MARIE MEEK THE ACIE ALEXINA GILLIES MEMORIAL PRIZE FOR STRINGED INSTRUMENT Donated in 1970 by her sisters, Merna and Valda , THE FRIENDS OF GIRLS GRAMMAR BURSARY FOR OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE IN MUSIC SUSANNAH GEORGE THE R.T. JEFFERIES AND ANNE ETHELREDA JEFFERIES BURSARY This commemorates the first Music Master of the school (1875) and his daughter, an Old Girl of the School and a past Music Mistress, whose gift it is. The bursa1y is awarded to the "most promising student in the school for the advancement of music". LATHIKA VITHANAGE Presented by Mrs . P.H. Bailey in memo1y of her Aunt who was a Senior English Mistress at the School. This prize is awarded for the most outstanding work in connection with Drama . Not awarded in 1997 THE MERLE WEAVER PRIZE FOR PUBLIC SPEAKING Donated in 1954 by Miss Weaver, a former staff member. SENIOR: ELIZABETH AHERN JUNIOR: JUDITH HAINSWORTH This medal was given in 1915 by Miss Sophia Beanland, Headmistress 1882 - 1890 in mem01y of her mother. TASHEN DROMEY THE CHARLOTTE D'JONCOURT FOLKLORE PRIZE Awarded for the first time in 1986, this prize was endowed by Miss E L Marsland. The award is based on a guided reading quiz and an essay. DEBORAH LAURITZ THE BERIS KOROTCOFF MEMORIAL PRIZE This is awarded to a girl in Year 11 or 12 for leadership in Outdoor Education pursuits. The trophy was donated in memo1y of Beris by her 1976 school friends and was given for the first time in 1989. RUTH SCHULZ
THE MARY ALEXIS MACMILLAN PRIZE FOR LYRIC AND POETRY For Years 8, 9 and 10 - given in memo1y of Miss Macmillan who was on the staff for 39 years, was Senior English Mistress and was Second Mistress from 1930 - 1965. YEAR 8: CAITLIN GOSS YEARS 9-10: SOPHIE FERRI DORIS TOWNSEND (WARAKER) BURSARY - Lyric Poetry This prize is a bequest from the Estate of the late Doris Townsend (Waraker) and is awarded to a girl in Years 8, 9 or 10 who writes poetry in the true lyric tradition; the prize is to be used to further the potential of the student as a lyric poet. SOPHIE FERRIS THE BETTY WOOLCOCK CHALLENGE CUP Presented by the late, the Hon. MiĀ·. Justice Woolcock and Mrs. Woolcock in memo1y of their daughter, Dorothy Harpur Hyne (Betty).
