SIR SAMUEL WALKER GRIFFITH PRIZE This prize commemorates the great contribution to public life and to the Grammar Schools of Sir Samuel Walker Griffith and is awarded to a student who has exhibited merit in at least two Social Science subjects, has demonstrated good citizenship and has worked to improve the welfare of others. KATE ACHILLES First given in 1941 by Mr J E Broadbent, a member of the Board of Trustees for many years, in memo1y of his father. It is awarded for the best essay in a Natural Hist01y subject. SYNDIA LAZARUS . EDITH SWAN)VICK MEMORIAL PRIZE This prize was endowed by a bequest from Be1yl Blanch Steedman in memo1y of Edith Swanwick, a friend of the school. It is awarded for the highest achievement in Ancient and Modern Histo1y in Year 12. KIRSTEN GRIFFITHS THE TOPPER CUP FOR CITIZENSHIP (YEAR 10) This Cup was donated by Mrs E V Topper, a former member of staff. KATE HODGKINSON THE D.E. CATT MEMORIAL PRIZE FOR SERVICE IN THE BOARDING SCHOOL Donated in 1970 by Mrs Catt's daughter, Mrs I M B Cribb , in memo1y of her mother who had been a member of Staff in charge of the boarders. Awarded to the pupil from Year 11 or Year 12 who has shown the best public spirit as a schoolgirl. BARBARA McKAY THE MUNRO CHALLENGE CUP Presented in 1929 in memo1y of Mrs E Munro, mother of two Old Girls, Helena and Jessie Ruth Munro. It is awarded to a pupil from Year 12, Year 11 or Year 10 who has proved herself best in work, sport and public spirit.
