who sang during some of the songs, and instrumentalists whcr accompanied and provided "mood music" and sound effects. Rehearsals took place each Friday at Churchie, with weekend ancl afternoon rehearsals running up to the three performance nights. The group all got on very well, and the actual songs were catchy and lun to produce. The music I'as all broug}rt together under the baton of Music Director Mr Malcolm Co1e, whose talent, friendliness and enthusiasm helped to make it an enjoyable and memorable experience. The Year 8/9 Choir represented BGGS at the Australian Voices Music Festival. performing with great success three contemporary Australian q,'orks. Members of Grammar Singers participated in the Aus- traltan National Choral Association Choral Camp, and members of the Advanced Strings and String Orchestra *2 particlpated in the Somerville House String Festival. On this occasion, members of the Advancecl String Orchestra, con- ducted by Mr Simon Oswell and with soloists Philippa \[est, Bryony MacGillivray and Linda Siemon, also performed an outstanding Brandenburg Concerto +4, in the first part of the evening. The George String Quartet was invited to play at the Australian String Teachers Biennial Conference in master class with members of the Australian String Quartet. The girls acquitted themselves very well on this occasion. Due to record audiences. the End of Term 2 Music Concert was held in the BGGS Auditorium, and nobody left disap- pointed, after a wonderful pre-concert supper and entertain- ment. The third term at BGGS got oll to a rousing start with many of the students involved in the Instrumental and Vocal Competitions. The Competitions were much more stream- lined than in past years, and the following students are to be congratulated:

AndrewJaruis, Mr Darren Hulcombe, Miss Kylie Vann and Mlss Jessica Conoplia tutored the band, cr-rlminating in a concert on Sunclay 26th February at the Youth Centre. This weekend was extremely advantageous musically as well as sociably enioy- ab1e. The Senior Concert Band was therefore in fine form as they provided music for the official opening ceremony of the McCrae Grassie Sports Centre. On Friday, March 31, the Music Concert in the Gehrmann Theatre was a wonderful finale for a long but musically fulfilling first term. Second Term was short, but with many musical events packed into that short time. The nineteen member auditioned chamber choir Camerata Singers, condr-rcted by Emily Cox, participatecl as part of a comlrined youth choir singing in the gala opening concefi of the Brisbane Biennial International Festival of Music. During term two, Grammar mttsicians were involved in the ioint ACGS/BGGS production of the Brechtian play,The Caucersian Cbalk Circle. The rnusic team was made up of a group of singers, who sang recitative-style narrations throughout the play as well as each singing solo songs, a chorus
