1990 School Magazine
Four and this will no doubt be a challenging competition Both the Junior and Seniorlnterhouse debates are yet to be held, so good luck to the competitors and may the best house win! As well as these formal competitions, there has been a number of informal, combined activities with B. G. S. Debaters from these schools have shared a Year Eight debating afternoon and several social debates, which proved to be very popular. Undoubtedly, the highlight of the debating yearwas the SchoolDaydebate. Our SeniorA debaters challenged the B. G. S. SeniorA's on a topicwhich, to say the least, was very controversial. B. G. S. took the affirmative side of "A Woman's Place is in the Home"
Unfortunately. we lost this "Great Debate" (now affectionateIy known as the "Great Defeat"), but despite this the Seniors would like to thank our adjudicator, Mr Dale, for giving up his time. After all, everyone is allowed to make one mistake! Of course, a huge thanks must go to everyone who came to support us. Thank you also to the B. G. S. debaters, whose ever-charming presence and delightful wit were much appreciated 1990 has been a superb year for Grammar debating. Our success would not have been possible if not for Miss Williams, the debating coordinator, and the many other supportive debating coaches. Good luck to future debaters and may you always be aggressive, argumentative and totally awesome! Konierine Robihson
