1989 School Magazine

ZE N ITH 1989 proved an exciting year for Cirls' Crammar Zenith Club, with an active, eager membership of twenty. First and second term were a period of 'getting to know' each other, w'ith the new members developing enough confidence to do their first speaking assignments. Encouraged and guided by the 'veterans' at Zenith, the initial awkwardness rapidly dissolved and some very promising public speakers emerged from all year levels. Third term was indeed a busy one in which B.C.C.S. achieved the honour of being recognized as the number one Zenith Club of Australia. On Tuesday July 18th, Val Taylor (President) and Dorothy Deasy of the Mt Cravatt lJ.C. Club, attended a B.C.C.S. Zenith meeting. The following Tuesday evening, Mrs Dakin, Mrs Riggs, Tara Marsh, Caitlin Barry, Lorena Cappellone and myself attended a Mt Cravatt l.T.C. Meeting at which we received a certificate officially recognising B.C.C.S. as Number One. The grammar students stood up very well under an unexpected selection of questions asked by a Mt Cravatt member doing the speaking programme. All nerves put aside, we had a very enjoyable evening. Since the beginning of the year the standard maintained by the Crammar Zenith Club has risen to new heights. The topics discussed have been as varied as they have been interesting with Capital Punishment, Beauty is more useful than Brains, What NOW Fitzgerald and Sex Education being just some of them.

The business side of Zenith has run very smoothly with an efficient board consisting of Tara Marsh as vice president, Leisa Cibson as second vice president, Caitlin Barry as secretary and Lorena Cappellone as treasurer. I have thoroughly enjoyed my term in office in Zenith and wish the best of luck to the Zenith Members of 1990!

Then to add to the friendships formed on Friday lunchtime and make new ones, many of us venture into the wilds of next door (Brisbane Crammar) twice a week for a combined prayer group. During the year we have also had a number of social activities and some members have gone on l.S.C.F. camps where they meet people from other schools. The year has provided many opportunities for me to grow in my faith and to share with others my ex- periences. l'll think of you all in my prayers and I'm hoping the group continues to grow.
