SENIOR PRODUCTION David Campton's THE CACEBIRDS, a highly respected drama and winner of many Queensland Drama Festivals, was performed on May 25th in The Cehrmann Theatre as the Senior Production for 1989. THE CACEBIRDS offers an insight into aspects of personalities and explores relationships, institutions and the thin line between reality and fantasy. The audience were ushered to their seats by orderlies clad in white gowns and masks and were issued a sedative, for relaxation purposes. After a prologue by two psychiatrists and an abstract movement piece accompanied by the Flute Quartet and drums, the Cehrmann Theatre was transformed into an arena of dramatic tension and disturbing yet superb performances by the cast of eight girls from the Senior School. Many who experience this drama will tell you they did not enjoy the production; however, they may admit tightness in the chest, surprise, sadness, shock or disturbance. THE CACEBIRDS deals with issues many of us choose to ignore and explores them in such a way as to provoke thoughtful reactions. Christine O'Connor Director.
