SATTY COUGHTAN Sally Coughlan a Crade Twelve student, was selected as a member of the Australian National Youth Choir in july this year. She attended the Pan Pacific Music Camp at Collaroy from July 2nd-7th along with 150 students from the eastern States of Australia. The camp was directed by John Nickson from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music and the Choir's special guest conductor was Rodney Eichenberger, Professor of Choral Music at the University of Southern California. During the week Sally worked on a variety of music and explored music media in general. She had the oppor-tunity to learn more about music of different cultures, presenting music. in various languages, and choral conducting. Th6 discipline and dedication with which the camp was run had a definite goal: achieving excellence. Sally has achieved this excellence. A 60 voice choir of qegOle under the age of 23 years was formed by audition. Sally has been selected as an alto in this choir. The expectation is that it will develop into a choir of the finest young singers of Australia. lt is proposed that the choir will per-form in the Pacific Basin Choral Festival to be held in the Sydney Opera House in July 1990. Congratulations on your success, Sally, and best of luck with your singing in the future. Erica Fryberg
