ideas. ln response to the growing level of consciousness about the environment, we decided to establish a B.C.C.S. Environment Committee whose aim is to discuss ways to enhance the school's surroundings (a euphemistic phrase for "g,rounds' duty"). During May, a smart Royal Blue box joined the ranks of those already outside Mrs Hancock's office. The sign upon it invited "Suggestions". This was an attempt to improve communication within the school community as were the weekly prefects' reports which became a "high-light" of school assemblies. The school calendar for 1989 was indeed a full one. The lnter-house swimming carnival launched the year with a splash. The atmosphere at this event, as at the inter-house athletics in August, was one of fun and excitement as each house showed its true "colours". However, at the Q.C.S.S.S.A. swimming carnival the school united and, led by the "new-look" cheer-squad, spurred our team on to a well-deserved third place. School Day coincided with the launch of the school's Restoration and Building Appeal. 1-he day began with the Year Twelves covering the school in streamers and balloons. This produced a carnival-like atmosphere which contintred throughout the day. Many invited guests attended "Crurtch Time" at which the school video was shown for the first time. The video, depicting the achievements of many past and present students, presented a well-rounded view of the school and the opportunities offered here for girls. The Year Twelve Fashion Parades, spofts matches, musical items
were but a few of the day's activities which contributed to its resounding success. Throughout the year we represented the school at various functions such as the launch of the R.S.L. Spirit of Australia competition, a Commonwealth Day lunch at the Victoria League, a Queensland Day tree ceremony and an informal gathering of school captains, all of which were interesting experiences! Fourth Term was a tinre of fun and fitness. The school's athletes displayed fine form at the Q.C.S.S.S.A. athletics carnival. The inaugural Fun Run provided everyone with the chance to run or walk or crawl their way around the block in a great day of pleasure and pain! Making the distance was a true test of school spirit! Our five years at Brisbane Cirls'Crammar School have been very rich and rewarding. We take away with us many valuable friendships and happy memories. Many thanks must go to Mrs Hancock, Mr Dale, Miss Hatton and the rest of the staff for their support and assistance throughout the year. 1989 would not have been the great year it was without the very special cohesive group of Year Twelves which lead the school. Best wishes for the future. Sarah Martin Diana Lohrisch
