Our first major project was the preparation of a subrmission to the Education Minister. The submission included complaints and suggestions ranging irr topic from the monitoring of teacher-standard, to student teachers, learning material and the T.E. scores. On Saturday the twenty-sixth of March we joined forces with a branch of the Police Department to put on a concert for Drug and Alcohol Awareness Week. Kids in the Kitchen, the Venetians and the Technicians played at the concert which was enjoyed by many people. lts success reflected the enthusiasm of the students, to be involved in a subject as topical as drug and alcohol awa re n ess. The annual Student Freeps took place on Sunday, August seventh. Live bands, entertainment, stalls, food and fun were provided by the students of Brisbane and a great day was had by all. During the year, the Brisbane City Student Council has raised money through its projects and this money is going to be donated to youth charities which are yet to be decided. The Brisbane City Student Council is doing an important service, not only to the students of Brisbane but aiso to the community as a whole. The enthusiasm and commitment of the youth of Brisbane today ref lect a very bright fulure for our cily tomorrow. Linda Campbell B.G.C.S. Represenlative

DUKE OF EDENBUR6F$ AWARD SCFNEfo4E The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme has been a continuing success with many girls from Year Nine to Year Twelve working to achieve their goals. They are involved in community service, sports, skills and expeditions. Three awards have been achieved so far this year. Jacqui lliff and Kristin Stewart received their Bronze Awards from Mrs Hancock in a School Assembly while Anna Kinnear qualified for her Cold Award. This award is rarely achieved by school students since it requires con- tinued effort for eighteen months and work on this cannot commence until the Silver Award is obtained. The Award is presented by a member of the Royal Family.
