GRADE 8 CHOIR REPORT This year the Grade B Choir was a great success. Mrs. Madden was a great choir mistress but she inherited the Concert Choir as a result of Mr. Wakefield's resignation. Everyone in the choir was sorry to see her go. We now have Mr. Warden taking the choir. t mustn't forget the most important member of the Grade B choir, Penny Goode, the pianist who has, as yet, not f u mbled her expert f ingers at a perf ormance. H urray f or Pen ny. Our first performance was at the Foundation Commemoration Service in St. John's Cathedral in wh ich we sang extremely well (what else cou ld be expected!) Our second performance was at the School Music Concert in April in which, lthink, as does the whole Grade B Choir, that WE stole the limelight! (Sorry about all you other folks who performed). l'd like to thank everyone who helped us reach stardom throL!ghout the year. Dimity Schollay
ORCHESTRA This year we welcorrred with open arms the many and enthusiastic Crade B's who wished to be part of the orchestra. They were successf u Ily integrated into the string section by our newly-uppointed full-time string teacher, Miss Myers. Our f irst performance at the music recital evening on the 6th of April provided an invaluable experience for all involved. The evening gave an opportu nity f or the orchestra to show its ability to perform different musical compositions. Combining the talents of the Brisbane Cram mar Orchestra with those of the Girls' Orchestra, at music camp, proved to be a most worthwhile activity. Under the direction of Mr. Cwyn Roberts, our specialist conductor from Queensland University, the group attempted a wide selection of compositions. These ranged f rom very challenging works like the Beethoven Symphony to contemporary works such as the Theme from Superman. This was an enjoyable experience for all the members of the orchestra. Of course, who could forget that memorable moment when Peter suffered an identity crisis and thought he was Superman ! Our thanks go to the various conductors we have had throughout the year - Miss Myers, Mr. Wakefield and Mr. Warden. We are especially Sratef ul to Mr. Warden for accepting the role of conductor of our orchestra after the resignation of Mr. Wakefield. Jen ny Blackf ord and Ju lia Mainstone
