CHAMBER CHOIR Du ring the past f ive years we have seen many changes in our group. Due to circumstances beyond our control, this once thriving choir of about forty voices has gradully diminished in numbers, to the extent that this year we had about eight members. Under the new name of "Chamber Choir" we rehearsed with Miss Hebden three times a week, and, in the early part of the year, performed some excerpts from Gilbert and Sullivan at the Music Recital Evening. We were quite proud of our effort at this concert. ln late July we sang at a service of Evensong at Christ Church, St.Lucia. Several old Sirls were invited back to sing with us on this occasion. Ou r old favourites, Bairstow's "Magnificat" and "Nunc Dimitis", were once again resurrected and performed at the service. The congregation was very appreciative of our singing. It is sad to th in k that th is is probably the last year that th is choir will be in existence within the school. Miss Hebden m ust be than ked f or the many hou rs of time and effort she has devoted to this group over the years. She has done a wonderf ul job. Julia Mainstone tA CAPEIIA This yea r, rehearsals f or La Capella began in early March. Although some very musically talented "19B3 La Capella" members had graduated f rom our ranks, we soon found that our new recruits had a lot to contribute to the grou p, and ably f illed the vacancies that had been left. ln the first term we spent our time preparing for the Music Recital Evening on 6th April. As usual, La Capella proved to be one of the most popular groups performing at that evening. Much of our success can be attributed to Mrs. Madd€h, our dedicated and skilled conductress, who continually inspires us to reach high standards of musicianship. To finish off the term we performed with Concert Choir at the Boys' Grammar Recital Evenin g, ?nd were equally well received. Because the three major groups required an intense programme of rehearsals, it was unfortunate that we were able to have only one La Capella practice at the Combined Music Camp held in June. Nevertheless, this did not affect us too greatly, und we were rearing to go again in th ird term, starting ou r preparation f or the Prom Concert in early September. Once again, this year we must thank Miss Turner for accompanying us on the occasions when we have needed her. Her services were greatly .ppreciated. The Crade Twelves who are leaving wish La Capella continued success in the future. We will certainly miss being part of such a challenging and enjoyable choral grou p. J u Iia Mainstone
