1983 School Magazine
S@F'TBAT,E, R.EF@RT' Unfortunately our 1983 Softball season was not quite as successful as 1982. The A Grade iost to State High 8-12 and St. Feters 4-5, both very close games, as the scores indicate, and the B Grade lost to State Fligh. State F{igh captured both premierships, rnuch to our disappointment. F{owever, both our teams performed well to take second place in their respective competitions. The Grade 8 and 9 teams will be competing later in the year and we wish thern the best of luck. We would like to thank Cathy R.ees, our E Grade coach, for all her help and support throughout the season and Mrs. F{arvey Short, our ,A Grade coach without whose time and effort we would not have performed as well as we did. Thanks are also extended to,Alex Seckold for scoring for the A Grade, and the umpires who provided their services each Saturday. Thanks to the supporters whose presence was greatly appreciated. We especially mention 2 year old Georga Cooke, a Grammar softballer of the future, who came and supported us every week - no doubt to get a few pointers on the game! Finally, I would like to thank both tearns for a tremendous season and for their support right throughout. Good luck in the future years. Fam R.ogers
VOT,N,EVBALL REPORT' The volleyball season this year has been enjoyed by all involved. The brilliant coaehing of Miss Williamson and Kelly F{oward has been rewarded in the expertise shown by the girls on Saturdays. The C Grade, captained by the vivacious Feta Morse, displayed spirit and eagerness to win the game, whether the team they played was State F{igh or Vloreton tsay College. Farents would be woken at dawn in order to take their offspring to a vigorous training session to prepare the team for Saturday's games, resulting in ultimate success (most of the time). The ts Grade team, captained by Nicky Fantages, were just as eager, but unfortunately a little less successful. However the team are to be congratulated for the exceptional effort they all put into the season. The A Grade, captained by yours truly, was of course above all praise, and despite not coming close to the pemiership, enjoyed their season completely. My warm thanks for all the help they have given me. {'m sure that no matter how"hcrd we trained, the calories would still have gathered on the hips due to the morning tea prepared, with the help of the girls, by Mrs. tr-itster, many thanks to Mrs. tr-itster, Miss Williamson and Kelly for the effort they all put into the teams. I-ots of luck for next year. Mary Hassell
