M1LC AND §l'IRA'fHCONA GYMNAS'fliC§ EXCHANGE

During the winter of 1981 the Brisbane Girls' Grammar School ventured into th e deep south ~o seek some competition for our victorious gymnastics teams. We travdled to the Methodist Ladies College and Strathcona Baptist Girls' School and braved the cold to enjoy immensely a friendly battle for supremacy. We came away with victories in all four grades in the Artistic and a great deal of experience from Strathcona. This year the girls from the south ventured to sunny Queensland for the return visit. They arrived on Sunday the 19th September and old friendships were quickly renewed . On Monday the girls were treated to a short trip around the city a fter a morning of rigorous training . On Monday evening the Rhythmic girls were put through their paces and the individual results were as follows:- A Rope Strathcona lst

On Tuesday evening the Artistic Competition was a thrilling spectacle with a total of two hundred and forty four routines on display for the judges approval. J:he MLC gymnasts executed some very difficult moves while the well presented Grammar team moved through their paces very competently.

On Thursday the Melbourne girls travelled to the Gold Coast and The Big Pineapple on the Sunshine Coast was the target on Friday. On both Thursday and Friday evenings the th t.ee schools attended the Pacific Alliance - Commonwealth Invita tional Gymnastics Competition which saw fourteen nations including China, England, · Canada and Hong Kong competing. The nights proved an unforgettable evening for all who attended. Then came Saturday, and we were sad because at I p.m. we had to say goodbye to our southern visitors arid their - staff Mrs Frances Thompson, Miss Kym Richardson· and - Mrs Barbara Cunningham from MLC and Miss Ann Dearing from Strathcona{ They left behind ver_y fond memories and we look forward to seeing them again next year.
